Title: Apply Tablet pc into Teaching
Tags:
Blog Entry: It is reported that primary schools in one of the states in Australia are going to apply tablet pc into teaching, which means that they will not use books as their teaching material any more. They think it is a good way to reduce the use of lumber and can protect the environment; in addition, teaching on those devices is also a sign of processing of technology and society. Well, I doubt whether it is suitable for kids to use those devices. Firstly, who is going to pay for the devices, the government or the parents? The news did not mention about it. If the government is going to pay for them, that is quite OK. Parents do not need to worry to pay extra money. If the schools forces the parents to pay for them, that will bring resist from the parents. As we know, they are not cheap. An iPad costs at 600$ plus. It does mean something for a normal family. Well, it is said people can buy them at a low price of China Copy tablets. Their prices are as low as 60-80$ each, and can perform well for some time. Secondly, using electronic products may be harmful to the eyes of kids. They are still kids at the ages of 7-12 when they are still growing. When the schools apply tablets into teaching, the kids have to look at the screens everyday. It is bad for the growing kids. Besides, students will not do their homework on exercise books; instead, they will do their homework on screens. They will have no chance to practice their handwritings. What is more important is that whether they can control themselves away from playing tablets instead of studying on it. Students of that age lack self-control. And now, there are many apps on iOS and android tablet , many of which are games, such as the popular Angry birds, Ninja Fruits. You can not prove they will not play games in classes. So from my view, I do not think applying tablet pc into teaching is a good idea at least at this time. It is hard to say what the situation will be like in the future. And you can say, to apply that device to kids is a bad idea for many reasons. Maybe you can ask college students to use them as teaching materials, but for kids, definitely unsuitable.
